IMPHAL, July 3: Two individuals were arrested with suspected heroin after a motorcycle accident led to a police search at the Kanglatongbi Bazar Board area early Wednesday morning, police said.
According to official information shared by Imphal West Police, the incident took place around 7:10 AM when Head Constable Rafijuddin, Post Commander of Kanglatongbi Naka Post, reported a road accident involving a Royal Enfield motorcycle (registration number MN01AF-4348). A police team, including women personnel, was immediately dispatched to the site.
Upon arrival, the police identified the motorbike occupants with the help of local residents. The rider was identified as HR Mathanmi (48), son of HR Thatwon of Tanrui Village in Ukhrul district. The pillion rider was identified as S. Mery (47), wife of P. Roland from Khongdei Ngawar in Senapati district.
While escorting the duo for a medical check-up, police reportedly noticed a black polythene packet fall from the woman’s possession. Upon inspection, in the presence of two independent witnesses, the packet was found to contain two red-coloured soap caps. Each cap held a transparent polythene packet suspected to be filled with heroin powder. The contents were marked as Exhibits A and B, weighing 11 grams each, totaling 22 grams including the packaging.
The suspected contraband was repacked and sealed in a yellow paper envelope marked as Exhibit C. A REDMI mobile phone (number 7085187393) was also seized from S. Mery, who was formally arrested at 9:10 AM following the seizure at 8:00 AM.
Further investigation led to the seizure of the Royal Enfield motorcycle and another REDMI mobile phone (number 8131942095) from HR Mathanmi at 9:00 AM. He was arrested shortly afterward at 9:15 AM.
The arrested persons and all seized items have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action, Imphal West Police confirmed.
