IMPHAL, May 16: In a moving tribute to the courage and sacrifice of its personnel, the Border Security Force (BSF) will rename two of its Border Out Posts (BOPs) after Sub-Inspector Md Imteyaz and Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham, who were martyred during cross-border shelling by Pakistan amid Operation Sindoor.
The announcement was made by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Thursday following a wreath-laying ceremony at the Amar Prahari memorial at BSF Headquarters in Jammu. DG Chawdhary stated that the decision was made to honour the bravery and unwavering commitment displayed by the two soldiers while defending their posts under enemy fire.
Deepak Chingakham lost his life after sustaining injuries during heavy cross-border shelling in Jammu & Kashmir’s RS Pura sector on May 10. His mortal remains reached Manipur on Tuesday, where he was given a hero’s farewell. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with Chief Secretary PK Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, and Security Advisor Kulediep Singh, paid floral tributes during a solemn ceremony held at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
The tribute ceremony was also attended by Lok Sabha MPs Bimol Akoijam and Maharaj Leishemba Sanajaoba, former Union Minister Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Congress MLAs Okram Surjakumar and K Ranjit, and BJP MLA Kh Ibomcha.
Constable Deepak Chingakham, a resident of Yairipok Mathak Leikai in Imphal East, had joined the BSF in 2021. He is survived by his parents and a younger brother. His father Bonbihari (58) and brother Naoba (20) were present at the wreath-laying ceremony.
DG Chawdhary commended the valour of all BSF personnel during Operation Sindoor, including women troopers who held their ground in the face of danger. He also visited the Army Hospital in Jammu to check on injured personnel.
The BSF emphasized that both martyrs stood firm in the line of fire and upheld the highest standards of service and sacrifice. The renaming of the BOPs serves as a lasting tribute to their heroism and a reminder of the cost of safeguarding the nation.
