IMPHAL, May 24: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, security forces arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations conducted over Thursday and Friday, recovering narcotics valued at more than ₹2 crores in the international market, along with ₹37 lakhs in cash and communication equipment.
The first arrest took place on Friday when Manipur Police, assisted by central security forces, apprehended a 46-year-old woman, Chigenvung, from her residence in Tangnuam village under Churachandpur Police Station. Originally from Kanan Veng, Churachandpur, the suspect was found in possession of 25 soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar weighing 289 grams, ₹8 lakhs in cash, and a mobile phone, an official confirmed on Saturday.
In another operation on Thursday, Police arrested a 52-year-old man, Doukholet Hanghal, from Mongkot Khopi village. The operation led to the recovery of 870 grams of Brown Sugar estimated to be worth ₹1.74 crore, 20 soap cases containing suspected No. 4 heroin weighing 260 grams valued at around ₹52 lakhs, and ₹29.5 lakhs in cash. In addition, two Baofeng radio sets along with a base station were seized from his possession, suggesting possible links to a larger network.
