Shillong, September 29: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Meghalaya police on Sunday arrested two drug suppliers from Manipur and seized heroin worth ₹2.5 crore in West Jaintia Hills district.
District police chief Jagpal Dhanao said the arrests were made at 8th Mile following four days of intelligence-based surveillance. A TATA vehicle (Registration No. ML05 K 2315) coming from Silchar, Assam, was intercepted, leading to the arrest of Chuchung Serto of Nakhunjang, Kangpokpi, and Thanggin Towthang of Songpehh, Churachandpur.
During the search, police recovered 50 soap boxes containing 512.63 grams of heroin, besides cash amounting to ₹6,775, ₩3,000 in South Korean Won, ₸500 in Kazakhstan Tenge, 10 Burmese currency notes, and two mobile phones.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain, possible cross-border links, and the involvement of a wider network.
