Two injured in bomb explosion in Manipur’s Bishnupur district

IMPHAL, Jan 5: Two persons including a woman were injured when unidentified miscreants triggered two bomb explosion on Monday morning in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, police said.

An explosion, suspected to be caused by IED planted by unidentified miscreants, occurred at around 5.45 am at an abandoned kutcha house in Bishnupur’s Ngaukon area under Phougakchao Police Station, the official said.

The house belonged to Salam Mani Singh and has been abandoned after ethnic violence broke out in the state. Singh is currently taking shelter at a relief camp.

Police said “on receipt of information, police rushed to the spot and conducted a spot inspection during which a blast crater was found inside the house, along with blackening and splinter marks on the inner walls and floor, indicating explosion of an improvised explosive device.”

“The structure was found partially damaged casualty or injury was reported, as the house was unoccupied at the time of explosion. The area was secured and necessary preventive measures were taken” police added.

The second explosion occurred, nearly 200 metres from the abandoned house at around 8.45 am, when locals went to the village to inspect the explosion during which two persons including a woman were injured.

The injured persons, identified as Sanatomba Singh and Indubala Devi, sustained splinter injuires on their right legs and has been admitted to a government hospital and are out of danger.

Meanwhile, irate locals confronted with security forces for preventing the explosions despite presence of central forces in nearby areas.

The locals also dismantled a makeshift security bunker at nearby area.

The area was affected when ethnic violence broke out in the state in 2023 and several Meitei residents had fled their homes.
