Imphal, August 7: In a major crackdown on insurgent activity, security forces in Manipur arrested two active cadres of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) — KCP (PWG) — during two separate operations carried out on August 6.
The first arrest was made at Yurembam Awang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. The arrested individual, Leiphrakpam Herojit Meetei (41), was apprehended from his residence. Authorities believe he was actively involved in extorting money from the public to generate funds for the banned outfit. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from his possession during the operation.

In a second intelligence-based operation, security personnel apprehended another cadre, identified as Ingudum Tularanjan Meitei alias Abung (29), a resident of Taothong Mamang Leikai under Lamshang Police Station. He was nabbed from Ahallup Lai Haraopham in Imphal East district. A wallet containing ₹80 and a voter ID card were seized from him. Preliminary investigation has linked him to the abduction and confinement of a doctor for ransom at Lamdeng Khunou in August 2024.

In a separate development on the same day, a joint combing operation by Manipur Police led to a significant arms and explosives seizure in Gothol village under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district. The recovered items included:
- One AK Ghatak rifle with an empty magazine
- Two improvised mortars (locally called pumpi)
- Four improvised rocket bombs
- Nineteen rounds of improvised mortar ammunition.
