SENAPATI, Jan 28: The United Naga Council (UNC) has once again issued a directive to the Naga population, particularly under the jurisdiction of the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), urging strict adherence to its opposition against the “purported construction of border fencing” along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB). The UNC emphasized that no activities related to the construction will be allowed within the Naga ancestral homeland.
This directive comes as a follow-up to the earlier resolution issued on October 29, 2024, and further strengthened by the decision made during the presidential council meeting of the UNC on November 7, 2024. The Council called upon its units and subordinate bodies within the affected areas to take firm and coordinated actions to prevent any such activities within their jurisdictions, asserting that these efforts should be carried out without fear or favor.
The UNC further warned that any individual or organization found collaborating with the authorities in carrying out the fencing project, whether through providing assistance or cooperation, will face serious consequences. The Council stated that such actions would be dealt with according to their standing resolutions and position.
In addition, the UNC appealed to the Naga population in Manipur to remain resolute in their opposition to the construction, framing it as part of a broader, “sinister design” by the Government of India to “alienate the Nagas from their lands.” The statement concluded with a call for the Naga community to be prepared for any eventualities in the face of this ongoing issue.
