IMPHAL, March 24: Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, emphasized the need for all communities to contribute sincerely and unitedly for the restoration of peace and prosperity in Manipur.

Speaking at the 12th anniversary celebration of the Manipur High Court in Imphal, Meghwal urged the people of Manipur to speed up the peace process, stating, “With the early restoration of peace and normalcy, the state would progress further and play a significant role in a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India).” He expressed hope that peace would be restored soon, encouraging every community to work together for the betterment of the state.

In his address, Meghwal also lauded the Manipur High Court for its outstanding performance and the successful implementation of e-court initiatives. The Union government, according to him, had sanctioned Rs 7,210 crore for various court-related projects. “Over 90% of the work for the e-court projects has been completed,” he added.

The Union Minister further suggested that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes by corporate organizations should be implemented in the judicial and court sectors to further enhance their performance. He also appreciated the presence of representatives from all four pillars of democracy – the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and Media – at the event, highlighting the unique gesture of having five Supreme Court judges visiting Manipur together.

The Supreme Court delegation, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, visited the violence-affected areas of Manipur on Saturday, where they inaugurated various legal services camps, medical camps, and legal aid clinics in Churachandpur. The judges also met displaced people at the relief camps in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, showing solidarity with those affected by the ongoing crisis.

In his concluding remarks, Meghwal also acknowledged the support of Manipur’s Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and other dignitaries for their collective efforts towards restoring peace in the state.

The establishment of the Manipur High Court, along with the High Courts of Tripura and Meghalaya, was part of a larger legal reorganization under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Act, 2012, which came into effect on March 23, 2013.
