New Delhi, Oct 3: The Union Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises has confirmed a 25% wage increase for spinners and a 7% rise for loom weavers, effective October 2. This announcement, made on September 17, underscores the government’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of individuals in the khadi and village industries sector.
Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, revealed that spinners will now earn 12.50 rupees per hank, up from the previous 10 rupees. He highlighted that wages have risen by nearly 213% during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure over the past decade, showcasing the economic empowerment of rural India through khadi.
Additionally, Kumar announced a promotional campaign offering a 20% discount on khadi products and a 10% discount on village industry items. This initiative, which started on Oct 2nd, will run nationwide until the end of November.
Kumar praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for significantly transforming the lives of spinners and weavers through the Khadi Revolution, noting that the khadi sector’s business surpassed 1.55 lakh crore rupees in the last fiscal year, reflecting substantial growth in the industry.
