SENAPATI, Sept 30: The United Naga Council (UNC) has raised serious objections to the planned felicitation of Mr. Alfred Arthur Kangnam, an individual who has been debarred by the Naga people. The event, reportedly being organized by the Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD), is set to take place on October 5, 2024, in Delhi.
In a letter addressed to the President of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), UNC President Ng. Lorho expressed shock at the news, which surfaced through social media and other reliable sources. The letter emphasizes that this planned felicitation is in direct violation of Resolution No. 1 passed during the United Naga Council Emergency Assembly on May 29, 2024, and reiterated through a public notification on July 13, 2024.
The UNC’s official stance has been that Mr. Alfred Arthur Kangnam should not be recognized or celebrated due to his debarment by the Naga people. The letter also mentioned the unfortunate involvement of the President of the Tangkhul Naga Long in the event and urged immediate action to halt the program.
The UNC has called on the TNL to strictly adhere to the Council’s resolution and take necessary steps to cancel the felicitation event. They emphasized the importance of unity and compliance with its decisions, requesting the Tangkhul leadership to ensure strict adherence to the resolution. The Council also noted that failure to do so would be seen as an affront to its authority and to the Naga people.
