UNPO Condemns Alleged Drone Strike in Naga Areas, Cites Ongoing Rights Violations

Kohima, October 24: The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) has condemned the alleged drone strike that reportedly occurred on October 21 along the Indo–Myanmar border, describing it as part of a “persistent pattern of disregard for the rights, safety, and dignity of the Naga people.”

According to UNPO, the strike—allegedly carried out by Indian authorities though yet to be confirmed—marks a “deeply concerning escalation” of military operations in civilian-populated Naga areas. The organization linked the incident to a similar attack reported in July 2025 and warned that such actions endanger innocent lives while exacerbating instability in the region.

Citing provisions of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), UNPO reiterated that Indigenous Naga communities are entitled to protection from unconsulted military activity and must be allowed to maintain cross-border relations. It also criticized the continued enforcement of AFSPA, the dismantling of the Freedom of Movement Regime, and the ongoing Indo–Myanmar border fencing, calling them measures that further isolate the Naga people.

Expressing condolences to the victims, Phiphot Wangsa and Khampei Wangsa, and their families, UNPO urged both India and Myanmar to pursue accountability and dialogue. The organization emphasized that only a “peaceful and rights-based approach” can bring lasting security and justice to the region.
