Wanted PLA Insurgent Arrested in Connection with 2017 Ambush

IMPHAL, Nov 17: Security forces arrested a “wanted insurgent” of a banned militant outfit in connection with an ambush on Assam Rifles in 2017, a police statement said.

A joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles arrested a self-styled Major of Peoples’ Liberation Army from a rented house at Sagolband in Imphal West district on Sunday, police said.

He has been identified as Koijam Ibochouba @ Inao @ Sumo @ Somo @ Pansareng (45) and “is a wanted insurgent in connection with the 2017 Ambush of 4 AR in Sajik Tampak.”

From his disclosure, a cache of arms and ammunition which were kept buried inside a plastic drum were recovered from a farm at Kharungpat in Kakching District.

The recovered weapons include one M-16 rifle, eight SLR rifle, one .303 LMG, two .303 rifle, 190 Amogh carbine ammunition, one detonator, 32 SLR magazine, four 7.62 LMG magazine, three .303 magazine, three 2″ Mortar, two IEDs and others.
