The World Health Organization (WHO) has given emergency use authorization for the first diagnostic test for Mpox, aiming to enhance testing capabilities in countries experiencing outbreaks. This approval comes at a critical time as the demand for fast and reliable testing rises.
Mpox has caused over 800 deaths in Africa, with more than 30,000 cases reported. The virus, which can be transmitted from infected animals to humans and spreads through close contact, has been detected in 16 countries, with the Democratic Republic of Congo being the worst affected.
The new test is expected to improve detection and response efforts, helping contain the virus more effectively. Mpox symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and boil-like skin lesions. The African Union’s disease control center views this development as a vital tool in controlling the spread of the disease and improving health outcomes.
