Imphal, September 26: A joint team of Assam Rifles and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) apprehended two individuals in possession of a massive cache of narcotics in Chandel district, Manipur, officials said.
The operation, carried out on Friday, followed specific intelligence inputs. A mobile vehicle check post was set up near Bala Point, where a white Gypsy and a Kenbo motorcycle were observed approaching. Both vehicles stopped 60–70 meters from the checkpoint, and the occupants abandoned the vehicles, fleeing into nearby forested areas.
“The search team immediately pursued the suspects, conducting a thorough sweep of the area. Both individuals were successfully apprehended,” Assam Rifles stated.
A detailed search led to the recovery of 67.26 kilograms of WY tablets, a potent narcotic with an estimated market value of Rs 53.8 crore. The seized drugs and the accused were handed over to the NCB for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Assam Rifles highlighted that the operation reflects the effective synergy between the force and the NCB in combating drug trafficking in Manipur.
