SENAPATI, FEB 25: Youth Rise for Change (YR4C), Senapati, has sought the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner over alleged substandard construction of the Inter-Village Road (IVR) at Makhan Khullen.
In a representation dated February 24, the youth organisation stated that concerns surfaced after a video highlighting the road condition circulated widely. A joint inspection was later carried out by YR4C members along with village authorities and residents.
According to the organisation, the black-topping work under the Traditional Model Village Makhan Khullen Ring Road (Part I, II & III), executed by the Senapati Division of the Public Works Department (PWD), Manipur, does not match the specifications laid down in the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Among the shortcomings pointed out were reduction of the road width from the prescribed 8 feet to nearly 6 feet in certain stretches, inadequate surfacing thickness resulting in vegetation growth within a few months, and fresh layers reportedly developing cracks within weeks of completion.
YR4C noted that in a hill district like Senapati, where road projects are not taken up annually, durability is vital to ensure connectivity for villagers. It urged the district administration to carry out a technical inspection, fix responsibility for deviations, withhold bill payments pending verification, and direct corrective measures at the earliest.
The representation was submitted along with photographic evidence of the site conditions.
