UNC must withdraw the 27th February 2024 undertaking of the intending candidates.
UNC must withdraw the 27th February 2024 meeting in which undertakings were submitted by the intending candidates which acknowledged that in time and political situation being faced by Naga people in the state of Manipur and in the larger context of the Naga political aspirations. It is of paramount importance to have a Naga MP elected to the II-outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency in the ensuing 18th Lok Sabha election 2024. And for which it is equally important to have a consensus candidate from amongst the intending candidates, so that Naga votes are not divided and success is secured at the poll.
This meaning is very clear that the undertaking was taken thinking that other communities other than Nagas may contest in the election. And if that happened Nagas must put up only one candidate so that we win the election. However, now that other communities are not contesting instead only four Naga candidates have filed the nominations to contest the 18th Lok Sabha parliamentary election for outer Manipur constituency.
Hence, in my opinion, UNC must withdraw the undertakings of the intending candidates as mentioned above and allow the four candidates to contest in free and fair manner after all election of this nature is like a festival where people are allowed to vote according to their choice.
