The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has issued an urgent appeal to all relevant parties to refrain from imposing blockades and shutdowns along National Highway 2 (NH-2). These frequent disruptions, particularly called by the Kuki community in the Kangpokpi area, are causing severe inconvenience and hardship to the general public who depend on this critical route for their daily needs.

NH-2 is a vital lifeline for the region, enabling the movement of essential goods, services, and citizens. The SDSA highlights that the repeated blockades for grievances are unjustifiably hampering the free flow of traffic, thereby disrupting the economic and social fabric of the region.

While the SDSA deeply sympathizes with the victims of the ongoing conflict, it is imperative to maintain NH-2 as a safe and open corridor. The association does not oppose shutdowns within specific areas or jurisdictions but insists that NH-2 must remain free from any form of harassment or obstruction. The suffering of innocent people due to these unnecessary blockades must be halted immediately.

In a recent resolution adopted during the 2nd Federal Assembly at Nteiramphung (Tumnoupokpi) Village on June 1, 2024, the SDSA resolved to take countermeasures if the harassment and blockades continue. The association is committed to protecting the rights and safety of the citizens of Senapati District.

The SDSA calls on all stakeholders to consider the broader impact of their actions and work towards peaceful resolutions. The well-being of the Senapati community and the uninterrupted flow of traffic on NH-2 must be prioritized above all else.

The association reaffirms its commitment to supporting and advocating for the rights and safety of the people. It urges all parties to act responsibly and considerately to ensure a cooperative approach to resolving these issues.
