In a tragic incident in central Indonesia, a missing woman was discovered dead inside a python. Farida, a 45-year-old mother of four, went missing on Thursday night in the village of Kalempang, South Sulawesi province. Her husband and fellow villagers launched a search and found her inside a five-meter-long reticulated python on Friday.
Village head Suardi Rosi reported that Farida’s husband found her belongings, prompting the search that led to the discovery of the snake with a noticeably large belly. Upon cutting open the python, they found Farida fully clothed inside.
While such occurrences are extremely rare, there have been several instances in Indonesia where people have been swallowed whole by pythons. In Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district last year, an eight-meter python was killed after it was found attacking a farmer. Similarly, in 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found inside a seven-meter python in Muna town, and a year earlier, a farmer in West Sulawesi was discovered inside a four-meter python at a palm oil plantation.
