The National Institution for Transforming India, better known as NITI Aayog, was constituted in 2015 when the PM Modi-led NDA government chose to scrap the 65-year-old Planning Commission.
NITI Aayog has been set up to provide critical directional and strategic input into the development process. It acts as a “think tank” and advises the Centre and states on policy matters. The Aayog seeks to address the “slow and tardy implementation of policy” by fostering better inter-ministry coordination and enhanced Centre-State cooperation.
Planning commission was replaced by the NITI Aayog in 2015. Only name changed and basically do the same work.
