Senapati:    The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur, urging for immediate implementation of reservation norms in admissions to Central institutes operating within the state. This comes following allegations that the National Sports University (NSU), Imphal, has violated reservation policies in its recent admission results for the academic session 2024-2025.

In their representation, ANSAM emphasized adherence to the Central Institutes (Reservations in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012, and called upon the state government to uphold the rulings of the Manipur High Court and Supreme Court on the matter. The memorandum, also forwarded to D Gangmei, Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), highlighted discrepancies in NSU’s admission notification, which purportedly allocated 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for OBC categories, diverging from the mandated 2%, 31%, and 17% respectively.

“We are deeply concerned about the intentional manipulation and procrastination observed at NSU and Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal,” ANSAM stated, expressing dismay over what they perceive as a persistent issue in Manipur’s education system.

The association warned of potential agitation if the government fails to enforce reservation policies as per parliamentary legislation across all Central universities in Manipur. “We believe that your Government will sincerely initiate necessary steps to abide by the rule of law,” the memorandum asserted, urging strict adherence to reservation policies for the welfare of tribal communities and all citizens.
