The Health Department, in collaboration with other agencies, has implemented various measures to contain the spread of Dengue. These measures include fogging in areas where Dengue cases have been detected, and resource reduction efforts managed by ASHA workers and Helpers under the State Malaria Department’s supervision.

Awareness programs are being conducted across multiple platforms, including press, electronic media, and social media, to educate the public on preventive measures.

Dr. Singh pointed out that overhead tanks, ground water storage tanks, and septic tanks are common breeding sites for the Aedes mosquito, which transmits Dengue. He advised residents to regularly check and eliminate stagnant water in and around their homes, as this is a primary breeding ground for the mosquitoes.

Director of Health Services Manipur, Dr. O. Sanahanbi Devi, State Mission Director Dr. M. Dinesh Singh, and other Health Department and NHM Manipur officials were also present at the event.

Warning to Senapati Residents: Residents of Senapati are urged to take extra precautions to prevent Dengue. Ensure there is no stagnant water around your homes, regularly clean water containers

Q. What is Dengue?

A. Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus, which is transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. It is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas.

Symptoms:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rash
  • Mild bleeding (e.g., nose or gum bleed, easy bruising)

In severe cases, dengue can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening due to bleeding, blood plasma leakage, and low platelet count.

Prevention:

  1. Mosquito Control: Reducing mosquito habitats (eliminating standing water), using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and using bed nets.
  2. Vaccination: Dengvaxia is a vaccine approved for use in some countries, but it is recommended only for individuals who have previously been infected with dengue due to the risk of severe dengue in those who have not been previously infected.

Preventive measures and awareness are crucial in controlling the spread of dengue and minimizing its impact on public health.
