Paris : Aman Sehrawat made history by securing the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the youngest Indian to ever win an Olympic medal.
At 21 years and 24 days old, Sehrawat broke the previous record held by PV Sindhu, who won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympics at 21 years, one month, and 14 days.
Competing in his first Olympics, the young Asian champion defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz, a Pan American Games bronze medallist, with a commanding 13-5 win to clinch the bronze. This victory marks India’s first wrestling medal at Paris 2024 and the sixth overall in these Games.
Sehrawat’s win continues India’s success in the men’s 57kg wrestling category, following Ravi Kumar Dahiya’s silver medal at Tokyo 2020. Sehrawat had secured his place on the Olympic team by beating Dahiya in the national trials.
India has so far earned one silver and five bronze medals at the Paris Olympics.
Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning Bronze 🥉 and breaking the youngest medalist record.
