New Delhi:   The Delhi High Court on Monday has provided Puja Khedkar with interim protection from arrest as she challenges a district court’s denial of anticipatory bail. The court has directed the Delhi Police and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to provide reasons for the need to detain her in connection with the alleged conspiracy.

Justice Subramonium Prasad stated, “Currently, it does not appear necessary for Khedkar’s immediate custody.” He further remarked, “The trial court seemed perplexed by the nature of the offense but did not sufficiently address the grounds for granting or denying bail.”

Khedkar, accused of fraudulently using a false identity to gain additional attempts in the civil services exams, is contesting the earlier court decision that denied her bail. The Patiala House Court had previously highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, stressing the need for a comprehensive investigation.

Justice Prasad noted that, based on the current circumstances, Khedkar does not need to be arrested before the next hearing on August 21. He pointed out that the trial court had requested custodial interrogation to fully reveal the conspiracy and identify others involved.

The UPSC had annulled Khedkar’s candidature last month. The Delhi High Court has allowed her to challenge this cancellation through proper legal avenues, giving her the opportunity to contest the decision.
