Senapati, Aug 12: The Senapati district administration, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and the District Programme Officer (DPO) of the ICDS Cell Senapati, observed the fifth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) with a pledge-taking ceremony at Mave School, Matanmai Taphou.
Mamoni Doley, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati administered the pledge, highlighting the district’s commitment to fighting substance abuse and a drug free community. Students, faculty and staff at Mave School also pledged to promote awareness about drug addiction.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), aimed at combating drug addiction and raising awareness about substance abuse, especially among youth, was marked by a major pledge event led by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi on Monday. Simultaneously, millions of participants from across educational institutions, states, districts, and public entities joined the pledge at their local venues.
The theme for this year’s NMBA campaign is “Viksit Bharat ka Mantra, Bharat ho Nashe se Swatantra,” emphasizes the commitment to a drug-free India. Managed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the initiative aims to reduce drug dependency and raise consciousness about the dangers of substance abuse.
Since its launch on August 15, 2020, the NMBA has seen participation from over 11 crore people. The campaign has been actively rolled out across Indian districts since August 2023.
