Tousem Headquarters Student’s Union Demands Urgent Attention from Manipur Government
Tamenglong, August 15: As India marks its 78th Independence Day, the Tousem Headquarter in Tamenglong District has raised concerns over governmental negligence, evidenced by the hosting of a Tricolour flag without the National Anthem due to the absence of the Tousem SDO. The SDO was unable to be stationed at Tousem because of the lack of a proper office building.
The Tousem Headquarter Student’s Union has highlighted several critical issues that reflect the government’s disregard for the area’s development. Despite repeated pleas, Tousem areas has suffered from:
– Absence of a proper office building for the SDO and staff.
– Insufficient infrastructure, including inadequate internet and electricity facilities.
– Non-operational Primary Health Care services with a shortage of doctors.
– Lack of functional government offices and banks.
The Student’s Union is calling for immediate action from the following departments:
1. Government of Manipur – To construct Sub-Divisional buildings and post State or Central forces.
2. Health Department – To address the deficiencies in Primary Health Care and appoint doctors.
3. Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) – To improve electricity facilities.
The Union’s demands include:
– Posting State or Central forces at the headquarters.
– Constructing a proper office building for the SDO and staff.
– Repairing and maintaining roads.
– Establishing reliable internet and electricity services.
– Providing essential infrastructure for security staff, bank offices, and other services.
– Appointing doctors at the Primary Health Care center.
“We urge the government to take immediate action to address these long-pending issues. We cannot celebrate independence when our basic needs are neglected,”said Haijeu Newme, President of the Tousem Headquarter Student’s Union
The Union has issued an ultimatum:
– 30 days from August 15, 2024, to relocate the SDO Tousem Office from Tamenglong to Tousem Headquarters.
– 60 days from August 15, 2024, to initiate the construction of the SDO Bungalow in Tousem. Failure to show tangible progress will lead to further actions, including democratic agitation and seeking intervention from higher authorities.
All the money eaten by contractors and ministers. Sad reality.
