Imphal: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Ukhrul district transporters has decided to withdraw the indefinite shutdown along the Imphal-Ukhrul route on Monday following assurances from Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to address grievances regarding illegal tax collections.

During the virtual launch of the Imphal-Ukhrul helicopter service, CM Biren Singh assured to address the issue of illegal tax collections affecting passenger services. He urged vehicle owners to lift the ban in the interest of the public.

The indefinite bandh, enforced from March 6 along the Imphal-Ukhrul road stretch, protested against illegal extortion under the guise of donations to passenger services and other goods transport.

The bandh was imposed by a Joint Action Committee comprising the Ukhrul District Taxi Welfare Association (UDTWA), All Tangkhul Drivers Association, Bus Association, DI Association, and Truck Association, causing significant inconvenience to commuters between Imphal and Ukhrul.

Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing, and TNL vice-president RS Jollyson also attended the meeting
