Aizawl, Sept 17: The Mizoram CID Special Branch has conducted a major drug bust on the outskirts of Aizawl, capturing Myanmar nationals involved in trafficking operations. On Monday, the CID seized over 40 kg of methamphetamine and more than 3 kg of heroin, collectively worth several crores of rupees.
Following a tip-off, the CID intercepted two vehicles at Hualngohmun around 10 pm. In the first vehicle, officers found 32.013 kg of methamphetamine valued at Rs. 4.14 crore and 249 grams of heroin worth Rs. 7.5 lakh hidden inside the car’s door panels. The driver, Lalthansiama, 26, from Khawmawi, Myanmar, was detained.
In the second vehicle, 8.021 kg of methamphetamine, worth Rs. 1.04 crore, and 565 grams of heroin valued at about Rs. 16.9 lakh were discovered, also concealed in the door panels. The driver, Zoremmawia, also from Khawmawi, Myanmar, was arrested.
On Tuesday morning, a third vehicle was stopped at Muanna Veng, Zuangtui. It contained 2.284 kg of heroin valued at Rs. 68.52 lakh. Although the driver, David from Zokhawthar, escaped, a passenger and a juvenile suspect were apprehended.
The overall haul included 40.034 kg of methamphetamine and 3.098 kg of heroin. The suspects have been transferred to the Special Narcotics Police Station, where they face charges under the ND&PS Act and the Foreigners Act.
