Tamphung: 28 June 2024
In a shocking incident, two officials from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) were kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of 4-5 unidentified individuals in Tamphung Village. The assailants also confiscated 10 phones belonging to NHIDCL workers during the abduction.
Upon learning of the incident, villagers promptly alerted the Peren check post police. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when police encountered the culprits, armed with sophisticated weapons including AK47 rifles. Unfortunately, lacking adequate firepower, the police were unable to respond effectively, allowing the assailants to escape towards Tamphung Village by reversing their vehicle.
Police at the Check post quickly reinforced their team and initiated a pursuit. The chase led to the discovery of the suspects’ abandoned vehicle near Teipuiki river, as they reportedly fled towards Poilwa and Benreu area.
Currently, police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects and secure the safe return of the abducted officials. The community remains on edge as investigations continue, with authorities committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety of all residents.
