Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched initiatives valued at Rs 55,600 crore under the campaign Vikshit Bharat Vikshit North East, impacting six states in the region with Manipur benefiting from projects around Rs 3,500 crore.
During a significant gathering in Imphal at the City Convention Centre, Chief Minister N Biren Singh spoke about the transformations in India, notably the North East, since Modi assumed office. He mentioned the 36 projects in Manipur worth approximately Rs 1,748 crore for which foundations were laid, in addition to the 45 newly announced projects estimated at about Rs 1,703 crore.
Among the noteworthy developments, the Chief Minister mentioned the Unity Mall, valued at around Rs 149 crore, designed to feature individual stalls for each recognized community in the state. He also expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi for endorsing this significant proposal put forth by the State Government, as well as for his initiative towards the infrastructure development of the state’s Maternity and Child Hospital.
Additional projects include the infrastructural enhancement of Manipur Technical University at Rs 54 crore, anticipated to benefit the youth, and the infrastructure advancement of the IT Special Economic Zone’s Processing Zone. Aligning with Modi’s suggestion to emphasize sports to steer youth away from drugs, the One Village, One Ground initiative was launched resulting in laying the foundations for natural grass football fields in seven localities.
Chief Minister Singh continued by detailing the inaugurated projects: two road initiatives under the CRIF, water supply work under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a Craft Handloom Village in Moirang, and four National Highway projects connecting different points in the state.
Confronting the urgency to conserve and care for the environment, Chief Minister Singh referred to actions for the conservation of the endangered Sangai deer and stressed the importance of developing more water bodies in Manipur. He highlighted the feeling of security the people have gained and the resolution of longstanding problems in the North East, particularly in Manipur, under Modi’s governance. This includes the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit System and modifications to border management with Myanmar.
