Tension enveloped Motbung Bazar when two Kuki youths, allegedly assaulted by well-armed Kuki militants believed to be KRA (U) members, tragically passed away last night at Motbung Bazar, situated under Sapermeina police station in Kangpokpi district.

The event occurred when armed Kuki militants, suspected to be KRA (U) insurgents, arrived at Motbung Bazar from a nearby camp and began brutally beating several youths accused of drug use.

After the militants departed, three of the assaulted individuals were rushed to Letpao Hospital in Motbung Bazar, where two of them succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Jangminlal from Sapermeina and Jangminlen from Kholep village. Another individual, Haominthang, also sustained severe injuries and was transferred to Dimapur for further medical attention.

Upon learning of the deaths, a large and unruly mob gathered in the streets of Motbung Bazar to protest against the armed Kuki militants. Some shops and property were set ablaze during the chaos.

Amidst the violent protests, gunshots believed to be fired by Kuki militants were heard in the Motbung Bazar area. The situation remained tense throughout the night until reinforcement teams from Kangpokpi district police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Although a public meeting was underway to address the previous night’s incident, the area remained tense at the time of reporting as efforts were made to find a resolution.
