The Senapati District Catholic Union (SDCU) convened its annual General Assembly on the 20th of March, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Tadubi. Hosted by the Mao Catholic Association, the assembly aimed to address the welfare and concerns of the Catholic community across the district.
Established in 1990 and approved by the Archdiocese of Imphal, SDCU stands as the apex laity organization in Senapati District, second biggest Organization after Naga People’s Organization (NPO). Comprising of five major tribes – Mao Catholic Association (MCA), Maram Area Catholic Association (MACA), Poumai Naga Catholic Me (PNCM), Zeme Catholic Union (ZCU), and Liangmai Catholic Association (LCA) – SDCU serves as a unifying platform for Catholics from diverse backgrounds.
With a substantial presence, the Catholic community in Senapati District boasts over 80 priests, 400 nuns, and encompasses 16 parishes and mission centers. The General Assembly provided an opportunity for members to come together, discuss pertinent issues, and chart a course of action for the year ahead.
During the assembly, delegates deliberated on various matters concerning the community’s spiritual, social, and educational well-being. Additionally, they discussed initiatives to strengthen ties among the different tribes and foster unity within the Catholic fraternity.
As the Catholic community continues to grow and evolve in Senapati District, SDCU remains committed to upholding its mission of service, solidarity, and spiritual enrichment. Through collaborative efforts and collective engagement, the organization strives to promote the values of faith, compassion, and inclusivity among its members and the wider community.
The SDCU General Assembly serves as a testament to the enduring spirit and vitality of the Catholic community in Senapati District, reaffirming its dedication to building a brighter and more harmonious future for all.
