It was informed through a press release that the Rongmei Naga Council in Manipur, along with the communities of Khoupum, Longmai, and Nayphay Luangrian, had officially served a declaration on the unauthorized collection of money under duress by various groups of militants along Old Cachar Road and National Highway 37. This, therefore, is an activity done without their consent and is troubling to the Rongmei Nagas.
The said statement by the Rongmei organizations of the districts is aimed at making every community and organization involved in that very activity stop. Since then, they have been warned of the adverse consequences, breaking the peace that exists amongst this community and, in turn, affecting the people from performing their daily livelihood, namely small-time businesses, commuting, and local vehicles using these roads.
Moreover, it also sternly condemned the illegal collection of taxes or entry fees from the Nagas visiting Churachandpur District. Such a donation, supposedly by an unidentifiable organization from the Zo-Kuki community, was also unacceptable to the Rongmei organizations. They have firmly decided and warned to abolish such practice immediately passionately, and its non-compliance would be constituted as undermining the rights and interests of the Rongmei people. That was an order and appeal made to the council, which asked for the cooperation of other organizations and individuals similar in the state to come forward and deal with the matter urgently. With the ultimate aim of keeping such elements under control and protecting the peace and harmony of the region while ensuring the prevalence of human rights and dignity of all communities concerned.
This type of illegal taxes should be stop by the authorities.
Too many taxation kills the business even in peace time while in wartime; taxation can escalate the situation.
