Senapati, June 2: State Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai and MLA Kumo Sha, accompanied by department officials and Senapati district administration, visited flood-affected areas in Senapati town and Karong on June 1.
During their visit, the team surveyed areas such as Viewland Colony, Yaopao Colony, Vakho, Karong, and other locations impacted by recent flash floods. They assessed the damage caused by the overflow of the Senapati River on May 28, which resulted in the submergence of residential houses, collapse of retaining walls, and destruction of crucial infrastructure such as footbridges linking communities.
The visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the extent of the damage and to assess the immediate needs of the affected residents. By collaborating with department officials and the district administration, Minister Awangbow and MLA Kumo sought to ensure prompt and effective relief efforts for those affected by the disaster.
The impact of the flood underscores the urgent need for coordinated response measures to mitigate the effects of natural disasters and to support communities in their recovery efforts.
