In a significant step towards environmental conservation & preservation, the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Naamai Zo Eco-Tourism Society of Koide village, Seven Sisters Foundation and Lungpikalai Maram Thangal Students organised a large scale plantation drive at Naamai Zho, Koide and Maram villages in Senapati District, Manipur. This event was held on 05 June 2024 on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ and emphasised the theme of ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation.
The plantation drive saw the enthusiastic participation of local communities, students and Assam Rifles personnel who planted over 5000 saplings during the event. The saplings included a mix of indigenous species aimed at restoring the local ecosystem, enhancing biodiversity and contributing to the overall growth of the environment.
Representatives from the Naamai Zo Eco-Tourism Society of Koide village and Seven Sisters Foundation expressed their gratitude to Assam Rifles for spearheading this vital initiative. They emphasized the role of community involvement in environmental conservation and the positive impact of such collaborative efforts.
The event also served as an educational platform with experts providing insights into the benefits of afforestation, proper planting techniques and the long-term care required for saplings to grow into mature trees. Students from Lungpikalai Maram Thangal Students actively participated in the event and gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in environmental stewardship.
The collaboration between the Assam Rifles, local communities and students demonstrates a collective commitment to preserving and enhancing our natural environment.
