Senapati, Manipur – June 14, 2024
The United Naga Council (UNC)’s recent decision to debar three prominent Naga intellectuals and leaders has sparked a wave of criticism and dissatisfaction among the public. The order, which affects Eno. Kho John, Eno. Dr. Allyson Abonmai, and Eno. Alfred Kangnam Arthur, has been labeled as “immature and cheap” by many citizens who previously held the UNC in high regard.
Social media platforms have been inundated with posts condemning the UNC’s actions. Users are expressing their disappointment and frustration, questioning the integrity and motives behind such a drastic measure.
” This looks very cheap and immature exposure of the UNC.
It also looks like a dictatorial statement after all they failed to get their proposed candidate elected.(out of frustration and shame)” Commented one user.
Another post read, “Let’s Excommunicate UNC from Naga Society,Strip them naked and hang them”. The UNC needs to reflect on its actions and prioritize transparency and fairness.”
The order, which was issued following an emergency assembly on May 29, 2024, claims that the three individuals willfully defied the UNC’s position during the 18th Lok Sabha General Election. However, many citizens see this as an overreach of power and an attempt to stifle legitimate political competition.
Critics argue that the UNC’s actions undermine the principles of democracy and free speech. They emphasize that the electoral success of non-UNC candidates reflects the true mandate of the people, which should be respected.
“The UNC’s decision is not just undemocratic; it’s counterproductive. In a democratic society, people have the right to choose their leaders without coercion or intimidation,” said a concerned citizen in a widely shared post.
As the backlash continues to grow, it remains to be seen how the UNC will respond to the mounting criticism. This incident has undoubtedly tarnished the organization’s reputation and sparked a broader debate about the role and conduct of influential groups in Naga society.

UNC is an organisation formed by the people for the welfare of the people. But with this kind of administrative policy, they are inviting the people’s wrath. The members of the UNC leadership must know that they were entrusted to do things for the good of the society but not for a few senior citizens or political influential leaders of the society. Choosing and selecting of candidates for the LS election was never a people mandate but purely their (UNC members) and few tribal leaders interest. It was imposed upon people to vote for their intended candidate. This is the kind known as Dictatorship in human history

By now the UNC must have called the editor and threatened. This is the ugly truth of our CSOs. There also must be call from Hebron. They are self centred who wants to play with we Nagas.
Let’s imagine we get what we are demanding ‘A Naga Nation’. Do you think these crooks will let us live peacefully?
No. CSOs (not all) are frontal organisation of NSCN(IM). They collect taxes from us. Have they ever undertaken any developmental work work for us? Then what is this useless govt. They are responsible for formation of ENPO a further division amongst Nagas.
Consider the employment of wives of Naga Army. They are placed in all govt of India jobs mostly as teachers. They get good salary and do not attend the schools where they are are posted. I request if they dare to give up their jobs.
With the taxes collected they are living lavish lifestyle but we the general population Nagas are the ones suffering.
They turn a blind eye to the harassment committed to us by Kukis when we go to Imphal. They can settle with a cow or a pig. Hell to the useless customs. Are we Nagas so spineless???
We Poumai will not allow useless CSOs and NSCN(I’M) to rule us. We will stand for our rights come what may.
Let’s boycott UNC and NSCN(IM). They are a pain to us.
Dear Asahrii Clement,
We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and commend your bold comment on the state of our Naga society. It takes immense courage to speak the bitter and ugly truth about the challenges we face, especially when it comes to the suppression of voices advocating for truth and the welfare of our community.
Your words resonate deeply with many of us who have witnessed how muscle and guns have been used to silence those who stand up for justice and progress. This culture of fear and intimidation is tearing at the fabric of our society, threatening to split us into pieces if we do not take decisive action now.
We must recognize the urgent need for unity and transparency. The future of our community depends on our ability to come together, embrace diverse perspectives, and foster an environment where every voice can be heard without fear of retribution. It is only through collective effort and mutual respect that we can build a stronger, more cohesive society.
Thank you for your bravery in highlighting these critical issues. Let us hope that your words inspire others to join the call for change and work towards a more just and equitable future for all Nagas.
With respect and solidarity,
TOS Team.
