In a significant operation conducted today at 5:00 PM near Martyr’s Park, Mao, a joint team comprising the Special Operation Team, Mao Police Station, and B-Coy of 16-AR intercepted a white Bolero bearing registration number AS01AV-3793. The vehicle was traveling from Senapati towards Nagaland when it was stopped for routine frisking and checking.
The driver, identified as Th. John (32) years old, hailing from Laii Village, Senapati District, Manipur and currently residing at TNK, Senapati, claimed he was on his way to Nagaland for work. During the inspection, suspicious brown sugar was discovered concealed in a carton box on the back seat of the vehicle.
Upon alerting the District Collector of Senapati, arrangements were made for Executive Magistrate ADM/Mao Shri. Ningreingam Leisan (45) to oversee the subsequent procedures. In the presence of the Executive Magistrate and witnesses, the vehicle was thoroughly searched, revealing 22 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar.
The seized substance, weighing 260 grams along with 22 transparent plastic packets, was estimated to be valued at approximately Rs. 2,60,000. A formal seizure memo was prepared and the detained individual, Th. John, was arrested at 5:25 PM following due process.
An FIR has been lodged at Mao Police Station as investigations continue into this matter.
