Kohima: 19 June 2024
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a blatant abuse of power by Advisor H Tovihoto Ayemi and the BJP’s Nagaland Unit. The condemnation arises from allegations that Ayemi and the BJP coerced Kanili Kinilimi, the NPCC candidate from Ward 7, into withdrawing from the upcoming Dimapur Municipal Council polls by offering her a nominated member position.

The NPCC has called these actions undemocratic, emphasizing that they undermine the will of the people and violate the dignity and integrity of the electoral process. The party insists that such practices should be denounced by all citizens who value democratic principles. According to the NPCC, Ayemi’s actions not only contravene several penal and electoral laws but also disrupt the essence of free and fair elections.
In response to these allegations, the NPCC filed a complaint with the State Election Commissioner on June 18th. They have requested a thorough investigation and have urged the Commissioner to summon Ayemi for questioning and to take necessary legal actions to preserve the integrity of the electoral process in India.
