Ladakh: 29 June 2024
Ze Mnui (Yangkhullen) Village and beyond are mourning the loss of Mr. Ekedaung, who was among five Army soldiers tragically swept away while crossing the gushing Shyok River in a T-72 tank near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh early Saturday morning.
According to reports from Leh, the mishap occurred around 3 am near Mandir Morh, 148 km from Ladakh’s main town, following heavy rains in the region. The soldiers, on a training mission, attempted to cross the river, which had swollen due to flash floods. Unfortunately, the tank sank, and despite efforts by rescue teams, all on board lost their lives due to the strong currents and rising water levels.
Confirming the incident, the Army’s Leh-based Fire & Fury Corps expressed regret over the loss of the brave personnel. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief, acknowledging the soldiers’ exemplary service and extending heartfelt condolences to their families.
The tragic event has deeply saddened the nation, highlighting the risks faced by soldiers in their commitment to protecting our borders. The community of Ze Mnui Village remembers Mr. Ekedaung for his dedication and sacrifice in service to the nation. (Image Source: WhatsApp). Also Read
