The “Assam Rifles Sentinels of the North East Women Football Championship 2024” began on 30 June 2024 with much fanfare and excitement. The tournament features seven teams: state teams from Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Director General Assam Rifles Women Football Team.

The Opening Ceremony was honored by the presence of Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Honorable Governor of Assam, Smt Oinam Bembem Devi, Padma Shri, Arjuna Awardee, and former Captain of the Indian Women Football Team, and Major General SK Bhambu, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).

In the inaugural match, the DG Assam Rifles Women team showcased exceptional skill and determination, defeating the Assam state team with a 5-2 victory. Despite Assam scoring the first goal, the DG Assam Rifles team quickly took control, with goals coming rapidly, demonstrating their hard work and strategy. The crowd erupted with joy at each score, celebrating the team’s undeniable talent and spirit. This commanding win sets a high bar for the championship, promising an exciting tournament ahead.

League Matches and Semi-Finals will be held at Lokra, Sonitpur, Assam, while the Final Match will take place at Laitkor, Shillong, on 12 July 2024.

This championship aims to promote women’s football in the region, foster teamwork, and empower women through sports.
