Lawngtlai: The Lawngtlai district administration in Mizoram has banned the illegal trade of petrol and diesel to neighboring Myanmar and other countries for commercial purposes. Issued under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the prohibitory order aims to combat black marketing and excessive fuel purchases.
Effective for two months, the directive strictly prohibits the sale and purchase of petrol and diesel above prices set by oil companies. It also bars individuals from buying fuel in bulk using containers such as gallons from filling stations. Additionally, the transportation and sale of fuel for commercial use outside the district are prohibited.
Violators of the order, which carries legal consequences under section 223 of the BNSS, face penalties. The Young Lai Association (YLA), Lawngtlai’s largest civil society organization, supports the administration’s decision. Earlier, YLA had imposed an indefinite ban on fuel exports to Myanmar, aligning with broader restrictions set by the Central Young Lai Association (CYLA) amid conflicts involving the Arakan Army (AA) and Myanmar military in neighboring regions.
