IMPHAL: In a significant operation on July 21, Manipur police and security forces apprehended eight suspected militants affiliated with various underground groups across different districts of Manipur.
In Bishnupur District, police detained two alleged active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). Ayekpam Chingkhu Meitei (28) and Chandam Devajit Singh (19) were taken into custody. Authorities seized Rs 13,500 in cash, a counterfeit Aadhar card, several mobile phones, and a vehicle during the operation.
Meanwhile, in Imphal East District, Khoirom Ranjit Meitei (44), a prominent figure involved in recruitment, weapon procurement, and extortion activities for the KCP (People’s War Group), was arrested. His apprehension marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb militant activities in the region.
In a separate incident in Imphal, three active members of another faction, KCP (Taibangnganba), were apprehended. Soisenba Oinam (22), Lourembam Chingkheinganba (21), and Ningombam Jerit Singh (23) were linked to extortion activities plaguing businesses and residents in the capital city. Authorities confiscated three mobile phones from them.
In Moreh, near the Moreh Police Station, two cadres belonging to the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (Sorepa group) were arrested. Samurailakpam Deno Sharma (23) and Taorem Yuhenba Singh (23) were among those detained, contributing to the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the border town.
All individuals arrested during the operations have been handed over to respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
