IMPHAL: In a startling incident early Monday morning, unidentified assailants hurled a grenade into the residence of Puyam Rajendro Singh, an Executive Engineer overseeing projects for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), located in Lilong Chajing Mamang Leikai, Imphal West district. The targeted officer, responsible for crucial road construction projects in Manipur’s border regions, narrowly escaped harm as the explosive device failed to detonate.
According to local authorities, the grenade was discovered unexploded in the courtyard of Singh’s residence around 5:30 am. Swift action by the Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad ensured the safe retrieval of the device, which was subsequently neutralized at a secure disposal site within the Imphal West district by 7:30 am.
Police officials have initiated an investigation into the incident and have registered a case regarding the attempted attack. Initial reports suggest a possible motive behind the threat could be linked to monetary demands directed towards the targeted officer. However, as of now, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the alarming attack.
