Tripura, July 23: The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed in Tripura detained a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered Indian territory near the border fence, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and smuggling activities.
According to BSF officials, the apprehended individual has been identified as Md Mustafa (37), a resident of Uttar Kandail village in Cumilla district, Bangladesh. The detention followed an ambush set by BSF personnel based on specific intelligence regarding the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Indian territory.
“Preliminary inquiry of the apprehended is currently underway,” stated a BSF spokesperson. “Our operations aim to crack down on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and our field formations are actively disrupting the networks of touts operating in bordering areas.”
This incident comes on the heels of another confrontation where BSF troops thwarted a significant smuggling attempt in Boxanagar, Sepahijala District. On July 18, BSF forces intervened when Bangladeshi smugglers attempted to transport contraband items into Indian territory under the cover of darkness.
“BSF troops used non-lethal weapons in self-defense after the smugglers ignored warnings and attempted to encircle and attack them,” reported BSF officials. “Despite our warnings, the smugglers persisted in their attempt to forcibly smuggle goods, leading to a confrontation.”
As a result of the confrontation, two Bangladeshi smugglers sustained injuries from non-lethal pellets and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bangladesh.
Good work from BSF for catching the illegal immigrant. Illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh can cause serious problems for our country especially in the North East.
