Imphal, July 23: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh participated in the “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree: In Mother’s Name) campaign today in Manipur, an ambitious tree-planting initiative organised by the state’s Forest Department.The event, held at Chingpu Sabi Lairembi Ching in Lamlai, Imphal East, drew participation from State Environment Minister Thongam Biswajit, alongside various MLAs and government officials.
The centerpiece of the event was Chief Minister Singh highlighting the campaign’s theme of honoring mothers through environmental stewardship. He shared his sentiments on social media, articulating that planting a tree symbolizes nurturing and protection, ideals deeply intertwined with maternal love and care.
“Our aim is ambitious yet crucial,” Chief Minister Singh expressed, “to plant 50 lakh saplings, with an initial target of 30 lakh by September 2024. Together, let’s pledge to work towards a greener and more sustainable Manipur.”
The “Ek Ped: Maa Ke Naam” initiative forms part of a broader strategy by Manipur’s Forest Department to enhance afforestation efforts and ecological conservation across the state. It seeks to mobilize community participation and foster a culture of environmental responsibility among citizens.
