Imphal: Today, Manipur resonated with reverence and national pride as it commemorated the 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honoring India’s decisive victory in the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan. The central ceremony unfolded at the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion Banquet Hall in Imphal, graced by dignitaries such as Minister Th. Biswajit Singh and Minister Awangbow Newmai.
Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, overseeing key portfolios including Power and Agriculture, highlighted the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. He emphasized the annual observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26th, urging citizens to uphold patriotism and contribute to national security.
Minister Biswajit also acknowledged the ongoing celebrations by the Indian Air Force, ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas – Rajat Jayanti’, at Air Force Station Sarsawa, honoring the brave soldiers involved in Operation Safed Sagar during the conflict.
Minister Awangbow Newmai, President of the ceremony and heading Water Resources and Disaster Management, paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. He emphasized the significance of observing Kargil Vijay Diwas to honor the bravery displayed by the armed forces during the war.
The commemoration in Imphal featured cultural contributions, with artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College performing patriotic songs, adding a poignant touch to the event. The ceremony was attended by Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor to the Manipur Government, the Director General of Police, and other senior officials.
Across Manipur, districts joined in the observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas. In Tamenglong district, Assam Rifles organized an event at Apollo Ground, showcasing exhibitions and documentaries recounting the Kargil War’s significant moments. Over 500 students attended, aiming to instill respect and pride for the sacrifices of soldiers.
In Senapati, the District Administration marked the occasion at the DC Conference Hall, with Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley administering the Kargil Vijay Diwas pledge and honoring local heroes, including Sepoy K. Ashuli, a Vir Chakra recipient. The celebration extended to various offices and sub-divisional blocks across the district, with officials including ADM Nimmi Azingwungshi Khamrang and SDC Pf. Lophro participating in honoring the spirit of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
