In a significant reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Lakshman Prasad Acharya as the new Governor of Assam, with the additional charge of Manipur. This announcement, issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday night, marks a major shift in state leadership across India.
Acharya, previously serving as the Governor of Sikkim, will succeed Gulab Chand Kataria in Assam. Kataria, in turn, has been appointed as the new Governor of Punjab, taking over from Banwarilal Purohit. Additionally, Kataria will assume the role of Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The official communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan confirmed the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit from his positions as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. “Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of Manipur,” stated the announcement.
Simultaneously, the President has accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit from his roles as the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. This opens the way for Gulab Chand Kataria, the former Governor of Assam, to assume these responsibilities.
Other notable appointments include Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde as the new Governor of Rajasthan, Jishnu Dev Varma as the Governor of Telangana, and Om Prakash Mathur as the Governor of Sikkim, succeeding Acharya.
Santosh Kumar Gangwar will now serve as the Governor of Jharkhand, while Ramen Deka has been appointed as the new Governor of Chhattisgarh. C H Vijayashankar’s appointment as the Governor of Meghalaya also adds to the new gubernatorial lineup.
CP Radhakrishnan, who previously held the Governorship of Jharkhand and additional responsibilities for Telangana, will now take on the role of Governor of Maharashtra.
These appointments are set to come into effect as the newly appointed Governors assume their responsibilities, signaling a fresh phase in the governance of these states and union territories.
Power of President is only this others are just mere politics
he is there to read out the names prepared by PM .
Modi should redirect his attention towards Manipur rather than appointing new governors of different states through the president.
Governor are nominal head of the state like President of the country in India without much influence.
