The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has issued a strong condemnation following a violent incident at the Ocean Lounge on Dingku Road in Khuman Lampak on the night of July 26. The attack, which occurred around 9 pm, left six individuals injured, with one person, Sochihan Hungyo of Kashung Village, hospitalized due to a severe bullet wound to the head.
According to a press release from ANSAM’s Information and Publicity Cell, the violence began when Leishithem Mangkung of Loushing village was physically harassed by an armed gang at her workplace. The gang then launched a brutal attack on six others, using firearms and physical assault. The severity of Sochihan Hungyo’s injuries required hospitalization for a critical bullet wound.
ANSAM strongly condemned the barbaric acts of violence against women and the brutal attack on six other innocent students, including one from the Meitei community, highlighting the lack of respect for women and the pervasive insecurity faced by civilians in Imphal due to the unchecked activities of self-styled armed groups taking the law into their own hands
The organization called for immediate government intervention to address and curb these unlawful activities. ANSAM urged the authorities to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation into the attack and to deal decisively with those responsible.
