The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim is set to commemorate the historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement with a Thanksgiving Programme on August 3, 2024, at CHQ Church in Hebron. This event marks the ninth anniversary of the landmark agreement signed on August 3, 2015.

The agreement, signed in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top NSCN-IM leaders, was initially celebrated as a major step towards peace. During the signing, Prime Minister Modi praised the Nagas for their patience and expressed hope for an honorable resolution.

Despite the initial optimism surrounding the agreement, the Government of India is attempting to disown the Framework Agreement and is failing to honor its commitments to coexistence and the sharing of sovereign power between the Nagas and Indians.

The NSCN-IM has made its core demands clear, which include a separate flag and constitution (Yehzabo) for the Nagas and the integration of Naga-inhabited areas in the Northeast. Despite these demands, the Centre has only offered symbolic recognition of the Naga flag and constitution, falling short of the NSCN-IM’s expectations.

As the Nagas commemorate this significant milestone, they also reflect on the ongoing challenges in the Indo-Naga peace process. The call for the Government of India to uphold its promises is stronger than ever, emphasizing the need for sincere dialogue and commitment to a peaceful resolution.
