Tragic Landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad Claim 24 Lives, Hundreds Feared Trapped

Kerala’s Wayanad district has been struck by a devastating landslide early Tuesday morning, resulting in at least 24 confirmed deaths and leaving hundreds of people feared trapped. The disaster, which occurred near Meppadi, has prompted a large-scale rescue operation.

State Health Minister Veena George reported the fatalities and confirmed that emergency services are working tirelessly to reach those affected. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has deployed Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, with additional support arriving as another NDRF unit is en route. Additionally, two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have been mobilized to assist with the rescue efforts.

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured all possible help from the Centre. He has also announced a financial relief package from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), providing Rs 2 lakh to the families of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured. Modi has also pledged full support from the central government in managing the crisis.

Kerala Chief Minister has emphasized that all government agencies are actively involved in the ongoing rescue operations. The Health Department and National Health Mission have set up a control room and emergency helpline numbers: 9656938689 and 8086010833, for affected individuals seeking assistance.

To enhance the rescue efforts, two Air Force helicopters, including an Mi-17 and an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), are also set to join the operations for immediate support and coordination.

Meanwhile Rahul Gandhi has also urged United Democratic Front (UDF) workers to collaborate with the administration to aid in the rescue and relief operations.

Whom to blame nature or the human will remain a debate from different people POV but for me it is both human and nature but human did more damage to nature

Yes agreed with you, whenever nature is disturbed: imbalances in natural process cause many disaster.
