The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF), announced on Tuesday that disciplinary action will be taken against four of its cadres involved in the assault of a Tangkhul woman at Ocean Lounge, Khuman Lampak, on the night of July 26.
The incident involved Thounaojam Gopen, Naorem Ningthouremba, Arambam Tom, and Laishram Doshnikumar, who were exiting the lounge after consuming alcohol. They reportedly grabbed the woman’s hand and behaved inappropriately, leading to a brawl with her companions that resulted in injuries.
The UNLF condemned the actions of its members, highlighting that their behavior violated the party’s principles of respecting women. The party assured that the individuals would face appropriate punishment.
In its press release, the UNLF also criticized Ocean Lounge for illegally serving alcohol in the heart of Imphal city. The outfit emphasized that the incident was not targeted at any particular community and expressed concern over the hurt it caused to the sentiments of the Naga people. The UNLF has vowed to prevent such incidents in the future.
